For the third quarter of 2018, total revenues increased 2.1 percent to $238.5 million compared with $233.7 million in the prior year period. On a comparable basis1 (adjusted for the sale of Fannie May Confection Brands, which closed on May 30, 2017) total revenues increased 10.2 percent. Comparable revenue growth was driven primarily by strong revenue growth of 8.9 percent in the Company’s Consumer Floral segment, combined with growth of 15.5 percent (adjusted for the sale of Fannie May) in the Company’s Gourmet Foods and Gift Baskets segment. Wenner Media is selling Rolling Stone, its last magazine brand, just shy of its 50th anniversary. The publisher sold its other two magazines, Us Weekly and Men’s Journal, to American Media Inc. earlier this year. It continues to publish Glixel, its video-games site launched last November. “I love my job, I enjoy it, I’ve enjoyed it for a long time,” founder Jann Wenner, 71, told The New York Times, which broke the story. Wenner added that letting go of the title is “just the smart thing to do.” “Publishing is a completely different industry than what it was,” he told the NYT. “The trends go in one direction, and we are very aware of that.” Once known as the counterculture music, pop-culture and entertainment magazine founded by Wenner in 1967, the publication has recently been caught in controversy. That includes a huge blow to its reputation when it retracted a discredited 2014 article about a rape at the University of Virginia. Berkshire Hathaway's HomeServices of America unit has extended its custom publishing and content marketing deal with Havas House, the customer media division of Republica Havas Group and Havas Creative North America Network. The extension includes a new custom magazine, Lifestyles Southern California, which launches in December and targets the "ultra affluent audience" of Southern California's luxury real estate market. With a circulation of 75,000 print editions delivered directly to select, multimillion-dollar properties (valued at $3 million to $5 million).
