Inkjet, Toner Presses Aplenty at Expo

In-plant managers are all over the PRINTING United Expo floor this week in Orlando. And while the apparel printing and wide-format equipment are certainly catching their attention, many are here specifically to investigate the latest toner and inkjet production equipment.

Numerous vendors are debuting production devices at the show. In the inkjet realm, Canon is demonstrating its new varioPRINT iX1700 B3+ sheetfed inkjet press, Ricoh’s continuous-feed Ricoh Pro VC80000 is drawing lots of attention, and Xerox launched its IJP900 Inkjet Press. Heidelberg’s JetFire 50 inkjet press is an impressive entry into inkjet for the company. Riso and Kyocera also have crowds hovering around their inkjet devices

Xerox Reveals Suite of Production Print Innovations to Address Industry Demand

Xerox announced a suite of production print innovations including new presses, technology enhancements for existing printers as well as artificial intelligence and automation features that aid speed and productivity. Xerox unveiled the following innovations: *A Color Accelerator module for Baltoro, expanding inkjet applications and adding ink-saving automation *Addition of fluorescent pink to the Iridesse Production Press, enhancing its metallics, white and clear color palette *Three new printers capable of higher volumes, more media and extended color options in the VersaLink and Versant family *Two Xerox Nuvera print speed upgrades that best competition *AI-enabled media manager software that enables high-quality images with minimal set-up and staff time *Automated workflow updates to seamlessly print embellishments with FreeFlow Core 6.0

Quad Reports Second Quarter and Year-to-Date 2022 Results

Results for the six months ended June 30, 2022, include: Net Sales — Net Sales were $1.5 billion in the six months ended June 30, 2022, up 7% from the same period in 2021, or up 12% excluding the QuadExpress divestiture. Net Sales growth was achieved across all of our offerings due to increased pricing in response to inflationary pressures, print segment share gains and onboarding new clients in Agency Solutions. Net Earnings — Net Earnings were $4 million in the six months ended June 30, 2022, as compared to Net Earnings of $45 million in the six months ended 2021. The decrease is primarily due to $35 million ($26 million, net of tax) of gains in 2021 on the sale of QuadExpress, and sale and leaseback of the Chalfont, Pennsylvania, facility. Net Cash Provided by (Used in) Operating Activities and Free Cash Flow — Net Cash Used in Operating Activities was $24 million in the six months ended June 30, 2022, as compared to Net Cash Provided by Operating Activities of $89 million during the same period in 2021. Free Cash Flow decreased $119 million from last year to negative $57 million in the six months ended June 30, 2022.
