Stora Enso has received regulatory approval from the EU Commission to proceed with the acquisition of De Jong Packaging Group, announced in September 2022. Closure of the transaction is still ongoing and expected to be finalised at the beginning of 2023.

Green Bay Packaging (GBP) is pleased to announce a substantial investment in the modernization of its Arkansas Kraft paper mill. This is a multi-year project which significantly enhances the infrastructure of the mill and underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable practices and operational efficiency. The investment will encompass vital replacements of key process components, including the recovery boiler and biomass boiler infrastructure. Additionally, GBP is set to install an electric turbine generator, an integral element of the decarbonization strategy that will substantially reduce Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions. The project also includes the acquisition of approximately 300 acres of land for future investments and expansion, positioning the mill for the long-term.
Duro®, a Novolex® brand, announced today that it has earned Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) certification for even more of its paper bags and sacks. Now featuring more than 100 SKUs that have been tested and certified by BPI, Duro is adding to the growing number of certified commercially compostable products offered by Novolex. Certification by BPI assures customers that the packaging can be processed in a commercial compost facility. The newly certified bags include Duro recycled kraft paper shopping bags as well as lawn and leaf bags. They join other Novolex products that have already earned BPI certification, including compostable produce bags, T-shirt bags, can liners, and foodservice items from Eco-Products®. BPI says the certifications are important, noting that while the terms “biodegradable” and “compostable” may appear to be synonymous, there are critical differences.
