RYAM to Temporarily Halt Témiscaming Operations

Rayonier Advanced Materials said it plans to temporarily halt operations at its Témiscaming industrial complex in Quebec on Sept. 15 for an undetermined period, affecting approximately 400 unionized workers.

Managers and other employees will also be affected, while contractors, suppliers, transportation companies and forestry businesses connected to the facility could face broader economic repercussions.

The temporary economic shutdown will cover all remaining activities at the site except the wastewater treatment plant and Boiler No. 4, which will continue operating. RYAM has not provided a timetable for restarting production.

The decision followed the imposition of additional U.S. tariffs of 50% on certain Canadian goods on Aug. 22. RYAM said the new duties compounded persistent pulp and paper market pressures, leaving the site without an economically viable path to continue operating.
