Apple has introduced a new campus called the ‘Apple Park’ in Cupertino, California. It is reported that 80 percent of it will feature landscaping, which is set to include 9,000 trees. The new structure spans about a mile in circumference and is a single ring. The entire facility is powered by renewable energy. Solar panels on the roof generate up to 17 megawatts of power, enough for 75 percent of demand during peak times. We are updating our current carbon reduction targets to harmonize with the new science-based net-zero standard set out at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26). The new standard is aligned with the science of the Paris Climate Change Agreement, which aims to limit global warming to 1.5C. During COP26 in Glasgow last year, a new standard for net-zero was introduced – prior to this there was no agreed standard. Many companies planned to achieve net-zero through ‘carbon offsets’, which are credits generated by projects reducing carbon emissions elsewhere. However, many existing carbon offsets are of inadequate quality and hard to verify, with some even increasing global emissions. The new net-zero standard allows less room for companies to cut corners – HH Global plans to lead by example.

Expert Forum: The deliberations of the Working Groups will be informed by two online Expert Forums for Sustainable Forest Management and for Chain of Custody. People with expertise in these two areas can apply for membership. Stakeholder Conference: In spring 2017, we will organize 2-3 Stakeholder Conferences in different geographic regions. Public Consultation: Global Public Consultations will allow stakeholders anywhere in the world to provide input into the Enquiry Drafts of the standard, for a minimum period of 60 days.
