Why Q4 is your highest-stakes packaging quarter.
Think about the last gift you gave someone. How was it wrapped or packaged? You probably stood in the aisle longer than you expected – picking up rolls of gift wrap, holding bag after bag up to the light, comparing tissue paper colors and prints, debating whether the shiny ribbon was too much or just right. Every detail got a decision. Because you knew someone was going to open it in front of people, and you wanted that moment to feel special. Intentional.
Branded internal packaging changes consumer behavior in ordinary unboxings – 57% more likely to recommend the brand, 50% more likely to share on social media. Those effects don’t disappear in a gifting context. If anything, they compound.
The social share dynamic is particularly relevant in Q4. Unboxing content spikes during the holiday season – Google found roughly a third of unboxing views happen in the October–December window, about 1.5x the rest of the year. Gift reveals are filmed, photographed, and shared at a rate the rest of the year doesn’t match. A premium branded unboxing moment in December has an organic reach multiplier that the same moment in March simply doesn’t.
