Kimberly-Clark to build$100 million alternative fiber pilot facility in Arizona

Kimberly-Clark will invest more
than $100 million in a new
pilot facility in Yuma, Arizona,
aimed at extracting fibers from
hesperaloe, a drought-tolerant
plant native to the US Southwest.
The 50,000-square-foot facility is
already under construction and
is expected to begin operations
in 2027, according to an August 3
announcement from the Greater
Yuma Economic Development
Corporation (GYEDC), the City of
Yuma and the Arizona Commerce
Authority. The project is expected
to create around 50 full-time jobs.
The facility will process fibers
from hesperaloe, a rapidly
renewable, low-water-use plant,
for potential use in Kimberly
Clark’s future hygiene products.

Canfor Extending Temporary Curtailments in B.C.

Canfor Corporation is announcing an extension of sawmill curtailments in British Columbia (B.C.) due to ongoing weak market conditions and the lack of available economic fibre. The production capacity will be reduced through two-week curtailment extensions in January at select solid wood facilities in B.C. This will remove approximately 21 million board feet in addition to the 150 million board feet previously announced on December 5, 2022. The Company will continue to adjust operating rates to align with market conditions and the available supply of economically viable timber.

Flambeau River Papers Announces Price Increase

Effective with shipments on or after October 12, 2017, Flambeau River Papers will increase the transaction price by 5% for the following grades of paper as follows: FRP Offset Papers; FRP Glacier and Torchglow Opaque Papers; FRP Reply Card Papers; FRP Laser Bond Papers; FRP Converting Papers. All current standard upcharges and differentials remain in effect.
