Kruger statement on coated groundwood tariff
After review of our coated groundwood products, and consultation with industry trade experts, we now believe that our 50#, 55# and 60# CGW grades, all brightness levels, would be subject to this recent tariff threat on Canadian goods, should it be imposed.
As part of the plan to mitigate the impact on our customers, for future production we plan on offering a temporary 48.5# basis weight in all levels of brightness, similar to the 50# equivalent grades (specifications forthcoming). The 48.5# temporary basis weight would not be subject to the tariff and is 3% lighter than 50#. Many customers have already moved to our 45#, which is also not part of this tariff.
