Walmart not meeting 2025, 2030 emissions goals, but remains committed to sustainability: report

The retail giant met nearly 50% of its global electricity needs through renewable energy sources and is still working toward achieving zero emissions by 2040.

  • Walmart confirmed in its latest sustainability report that it anticipates delays in achieving its emissions reduction targets for 2025 and 2030, but reiterated its commitment to taking “meaningful” climate action and lowering its carbon footprint.
  • The retail giant said it procured 48.5% of its global electricity needs from renewable energy sources last year and 30.6% of its electricity needs were supplied through renewable energy contracts. The company has a goal of using renewable energy to power half of its global operations by 2025 and 100% of its operations by 2035.

Stora Enso’s sustainability report ranked best in Finland

Stora Enso’s Global Responsibility Performance Report 2014 has won four awards in the independent annual sustainability report review, commissioned by FIBS, Finland’s leading non-profit corporate responsibility network. The four awards include the best sustainability report, best reporting on Human Rights and on Tax Footprint and the top choice of a consortium of Finnish corporate sustainability students. In FIBS’ review Stora Enso’s report was particularly acknowledged for its extensive and transparent sustainability reporting, with a special focus on reporting related to the target-oriented management of human rights.

Amcor to join World Wildlife Fund-led ReSource: Plastic

Amcor has joined the World Wildlife Fund-led activation hub, ReSource: Plastic, a global consortium of companies and organizations collaborating to keep waste out of the environment. Launched last year, ReSource aims to help accelerate large-scale plastic commitments by organizations. By 2030, Resource has a target to prevent at least 50 million metric tons of plastic waste from entering nature. ReSource welcomed Amcor to the organization alongside Colgate-Palmolive and Kimberly-Clark. “Amcor is leading the way on packaging innovation, but new products and technologies alone won’t be enough to meet our sustainability ambitions and to solve the global waste issue. Keeping waste out of the environment will require not only the right package design but also efficient collection and waste management along with active consumer participation,” said Amcor CEO Ron Delia.
