Stora Enso introduces Ensovelvet – a new, premium uncoated paperboard for luxury packaging

Stora Enso is growing its portfolio of premium packaging materials with the launch of Ensovelvet, a new uncoated solid bleached sulfate (SBS) board with velvet-like smoothness on both sides. It is developed for luxury applications such as cosmetics, perfumes, and other premium consumer goods.

Designed to meet demand for natural and renewable solutions in luxury packaging, Ensovelvet offers a unique combination of a natural uncoated surface, excellent stiffness, and reliable folding performance. This bright, premium SBS board provides an enhanced sensory experience while ensuring excellent printability. It is especially well-suited for cosmetics packaging, perfumes, and other high-end applications where touch and appearance are equally important.

Ensovelvet complements Stora Enso’s flagship Ensocoat board, together forming a complete SBS carton range for brand owners and converters seeking versatility across coated and uncoated applications. Both boards are recyclable, supporting the shift towards circular packaging solutions.

Interfor to Sell Gilchrist, Oregon Specialty Sawmill

Interfor Corporation announced that it has reached an agreement to sell its specialty sawmill located in Gilchrist, Oregon to Neiman Enterprises Inc. The Gilchrist sawmill, which specializes in ponderosa and lodgepole pine boards, has been curtailed since mid-June of this year due to COVID-19 related economic factors. Prior to its curtailment, the mill produced approximately 80 million board feet of lumber per year and employed approximately 150 employees. The completion of the transaction is subject to customary conditions and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2020. Interfor will continue to own and operate its three US Northwest stud mills located in Molalla, Oregon, Longview, Washington and Port Angeles, Washington.

Norbord Reports Fire Near 100 Mile House, British Columbia Mill

Norbord Inc. reported that its OSB mill in 100 Mile House, British Columbia has temporarily suspended production due to the wild fires burning nearby in the region and in order to comply with evacuation orders in the 100 Mile House and surrounding areas. At the time of evacuation, the mill was secure. At this time, Norbord is assessing the impact to its production schedule. All mill employees have been safely evacuated and no injuries have been reported. The 100 Mile House mill has a stated annual production capacity of 440 million square feet (3/8-inch basis).
