Shout-Outs to Publishers Giving Back to Their Communities (foliomag.com)

Hearst – Steven Swartz has issued two statements pledging his company’s commitment to supporting “a fairer and more just society,” which he stated was “a core principle” of the company. In his second memo, he also announced the company’s fundraising initiative to support the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and Equal Justice Initiative. In addition to already donating $500,000, the company is pledging to match up to another $500,000 from employee donations.
Reader’s Digest Foundation – The Reader’s Digest Foundation is committing $2 million to United Through Reading, a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting military families with the experience of shared storytimes.
Seeker – Group Nine Media’s science publication is releasing a free educational offering for home education, “Seeker Learning.” In addition to offering access to its library of content, Seeker will open up a dialogue between the brand, teachers and parents looking for specific content.

Costco posts strong January as digital comps jump

Costco Wholesale Corp. came out of the gate strong for the new year with healthy sales gains.  The membership warehouse giant said that its net sales rose 9.3% $21.33 billion for the four weeks ended Feb. 1, 2026. Total company comparable sales for the period increased 7.1%. Comp sales rose 5.8% in the U.S. and 11.4% in Canada. Other international comp sales rose 9.5%. Digitally-enabled comps surged 34.4%. Total company comparable sales excluding the impacts from changes in gasoline prices and foreign exchange rose 6.4%, and were up 6.8% in the U.S.

U.S. Postal Service Maintains Mailpiece Time Delivery Average of 2.7 Days Across the Network

From Jan. 1 through Jan. 14, the average time to deliver a mailpiece across the postal network was 2.7 days. Second quarter service performance scores covering the period Jan.1 through Jan. 14 included: *First-Class Mail: 86.6 percent of First-Class Mail delivered on time against the USPS service standard, a decrease of 3 percentage points from the first quarter. *Marketing Mail: 91.7 percent of Marketing Mail delivered on time against the USPS service standard, consistent with performance from the first quarter. *Periodicals: 80.8 percent of Periodicals delivered on time against the USPS service standard, consistent with performance from the first quarter.

‘Saveur’ Magazine Returns To Print (mediapost.com)

Saveur magazine is back—in print. It will appear again in March 2024, and pre-orders are being taken right now, writes Kat Craddock, editor and CEO of Saveur. There will be two issues per year to start. The title’s previous owners stopped publishing print issues during the pandemic. Craddock says the loss was heartbreaking. The March drop will be “just in time for Saveur’s 30th anniversary,” Craddock adds.
