On the path to EUDR alignment: watch the webinar recording

The webinar focused on the advances we have made in aligning our sustainable forest management and chain of custody standards with EUDR requirements and looked at the vital data and integrity elements.

Our PEFC experts Marta Martínez Pardo (Chain of Custody), Rob Shaw (Data and Integrity), Hubert Inhaizer (Sustainable Forest Management), and Maja Drca (EU Affairs) discussed PEFC’s agile approach to aligning with EUDR guidelines by the end of the year.

Marta introduced the PEFC EUDR Due Diligence System which is currently undergoing approval by the PEFC General Assembly and is expected to be finalised by late July.

Rob discussed PEFC’s strategy on data management.

Hubert addressed the modification proposals to PEFC’s Sustainable Forest Management standard, developed for harmonisation with EU frameworks like the EUDR.

Clean Manufacturing innovation helps save energy used in production of pulp and paper

Pindo Deli Pulp and Paper Mills, a business unit of Asia Pulp and Paper Group (APP), is introducing a further innovation to save energy and natural resources in its production process. In collaboration with the IDH Sustainable Trade Initiative, Pindo Deli is incorporating the new Clean Manufacturing Program (CMP) into the production of all its paper, tissue and packaging products. The Clean Manufacturing Program emphasizes the need for greater energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reductions, as part of APP's commitment to the Roadmap Vision 2020. The program also supports the Indonesian Government's Nationally Determined Contribution, which includes an unconditional greenhouse gas emissions reduction target of 29% by 2030. APP began to implement CMP in the fourth quarter of 2016 and the process will continue for the next 12 months. The main objective is to identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency and to implement measures to achieve optimal savings in energy use and carbon emissions over the short and long term. click Read More below for additional detail

Outside Voice: Kerry Cesareo on Responsible Forest Management

Kerry Cesareo, senior vice president for forests, leads a portfolio of strategic forest management initiatives in pursuit of World Wildlife Fund’s goal to conserve the world’s most important forests, including the rainforests in the Amazon, which have drawn public attention because of widespread fires. (Note to readers: Domtar uses only wood harvested from managed forests in North America. We do not procure any wood from Brazil.) World Wildlife Fund (WWF) initiatives include using an innovative financial model to ensure protected forest areas are properly managed, and combining policy and market-based interventions to address unsustainable agricultural expansion, logging and infrastructure development in key landscapes. Cesareo previously led WWF’s forest markets work, launching the North American arm of the Global Forest & Trade Network (GFTN) and forging partnerships with Fortune 500 companies on environmentally responsible supply chains for wood and paper products. She recently answered questions from the Outside Voice team about global forest management:
