- Nordstrom is hosting its anniversary sale from July 12 to Aug. 3.
- The department store is offering its loyalty program members early access to discounts depending on their membership status. Icon loyalty members will have access on July 8, Ambassadors on July 9 and Influencers on July 10.
- Nordstrom has added more than 65 new apparel and shoe brands to this year’s anniversary sale lineup, including Sperry, Rothy’s, Alice & Olivia and Bagatelle. The company is also launching “Anniversary Big Deals” with deeper savings of up to 50% off on select products.

One of the largest online book retailers is launching a new program for customers to sell their books and help promote sustainability. ThriftBooks Global’s new BuyBack program offers customers a convenient way to sell their books directly to ThriftBooks and earn extra money or store credit from the books collecting dust on their bookshelves. The ThriftBooks’ BuyBack program encourages sustainability, giving old books a second life. The e-tailer says it accepts high-demand books based on its inventory needs, provided the books are in good condition. Books must be clean, free from water damage and missing pages, with the spine intact, though showing some wear is acceptable.
HarperCollins Christian Publishing is moving the Zondervan Books and Zondervan Thrive imprints from Grand Rapids, Mich., to HCCP’s corporate office in Nashville. The move, HCCP said, will allow it to share best practices across the company’s trade book publishing program for both the Thomas Nelson and Zondervan publishing groups. “Creating a more cohesive structure for our trade book publishing imprints allows for us to manage our nonfiction brands under Don Jacobson’s leadership,” said Mark Schoenwald, president and CEO of HarperCollins Christian Publishing and HarperCollins Focus, in a statement. “We believe that having the Zondervan Books and Zondervan Thrive leadership in Nashville will help the teams better manage author relationships and allow them to collaborate on larger corporate initiatives.”
In the last full shopping week before Christmas, unit sales of print books fell 3.5%, compared to the similar week in 2019, at outlets that report to NPD BookScan. Sales were down in the four biggest segments, with juvenile nonfiction units falling the most, dropping 9.2%, compared to the week ended Dec. 21, 2019. The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook by Dinah Bucholz was #1 on the category list, selling over 35,000 copies. Last year at this time, the title sold more than 37,000 copies and was in third place, topped by Raina Telgemeier’s Guts (about 43,000 copies sold) and The Try Not to Laugh Challenge by Crazy Corey, which sold about 39,000 copies. The juvenile fiction category had a 4.4% decline in the week, with Cat Kid Comic Club by Dav Pilkey at #1, selling over 88,000 copies.
