Help wanted: State agencies and producers staff up to implement packaging EPR

Extended producer responsibility for packaging programs require a heavy lift to move from law to implemented program. State agencies, consultants and other groups are hiring to meet the demand in 2026 and beyond – though there can be strong competition for a limited pool of applicants with expertise. 

The programs, which have been adopted in seven U.S. states, have a complex implementation period. Some programs, such as Maine’s, left much to be hashed out during that rulemaking process. Others, like Colorado, had a more prescriptive law.

Forest Carbon Opportunity for FSC Certificate Holders

FSC has a global agreement in place with South Pole, a carbon project developer working to implement comprehensive emission reductions that create long-term business opportunities. As part of this agreement, the two organizations are looking to identify FSC Forest Management certificate holders to develop best-in-class projects that demonstrate robust practices with respect to both forest management and carbon sequestration. Myanmar’s forests gain visibility through PEFC membership

“We are delighted to welcome the Myanmar Forest Certification Committee (MFCC) as our 51st national member of the PEFC Alliance,” said Ben Gunneberg, CEO of PEFC International. “It is great to see that the collaboration with MFCC has been successful and has already led to the acceptance of Myanmar as a member.” We are collaborating with MFCC on a three-year project to support the country as it transitions to the sustainable management of its forests.
